[Acetylene gas]

The name of the gas produced when carbide reacts with water. A peculiar smell is felt.

[Carbide]

A chemical substance also called "calcium carbide", the most common one is a grayish solid, which produces flammable acetylene gas when it reacts with water. It may react with moisture in the air and easily erode, so it is recommended to store it in an airtight metal can or glass container.

[carbide lamp/carbide lantern]

Carbide fueled lantern. Also called "acetylene lamp". It was used in Sweden for light after World War II, when electricity was scarce. It emits a warm and powerful orange light.
